Excuse me if this has been answered before. I used the search button and checked some web sites but can't find the answer.

If you build a complete lower from an 80% lower, install a bullet button, and pistol buffer tube - do you need a special ten round mag to make it a single shot?

I'm thinking the SSE is for people who DROS a completed pistol?

you need a special zero round mag, commonly called a SLED, to make it a single shot.

the roster regulations apparently apply to everyone in CA who manufactures a handgun, even a private party. so, the SSE would apply to a homebuild, not just to that "DROS a completed pistols".

I've found that scrap wood makes an effective "sled", cheap, plentiful, easy to mill (if you're building from an 80%, I'm assuming you have access to a mill). I'd take pictures to document that it (at one point) was built under the SSE. Just my $.02.

Just make sure you cut a grove into it so that mag lock snaps into the wood. Otherwise your just shoving something into the mag well....


Otherwise you could ask around and see if you know anyone with a 0Rnd Sled... I lone mine out at least twice a month (NorCal/Sac Area) to guys building AR Pistols.

Great ideas - time to get out the pocket knife and sit on the porch. I'm kidding - I have no time for that. I'll probably just buy the mag and take pics as suggested. Thanks for your help and time.
