    Rust browning and oiling/cleaning

Finished rust browning my muzzleloader barrel and it looks pretty good. After the 5th scaling, I rinsed the barrel and then wiped it down with a saturated sodium bicarbonate solution. Next the barrel was rinsed well with water. On oiling I noticed the cloth had rust on it.
I let the oiled barrel sig overnight and re-oiled it. More rust marks were seen on the cloth. There is not a lot of rust coming off, but if something is wrong, I'd like to fix it sooner than later.

    Is this normal?

Will I always get some rust coming off when I clean and oil it?

you only let it rust 5 times?? not enough to build up a good layer of protection.
Typical rust browning takes 20 to 30 coats.

Crud, the Laurel Mountain directions said to apply the solution 4-5X.
I guess I'll degrease and get back to rusting. Glad I asked.
      Thanks, KC!
