    Removing Duracoat Shake 'n' Bake?

I've done some reading on this but haven't found anything definitive...

I finished a raw lower with Duracoat Shake'n'Bake and it turned out somewhere between OK and good. I finished the build and am now realizing it is really thin on all edges and VERY prone to chip off, leaving the aluminum shining through.

Nowhere near as durable as I'd hope and certainly nothing like an anodized lower. I'm wondering what it would take to remove the Duracoat well enough to take the lower in for anodizing? I don't have a sand/bead blasting setup, so would probably have to rely on some chemical stripper of some sort.

Has anybody had success with the JASCO type paint remover? Hopefully afterward I can get it bead blasted and anodized...

    All thoughts appreciated.

    Thanks.

Outstanding. I have a HD about 3 blocks from my office so will swing by there at lunch. I'll get a few wire brushes too.

As for bead blasting, I'd considered that but not having the equipment myself, wasn't sure what it would cost to have somebody else do it. I'm still looking at $60 to anodize it as well... expensive "experiment" with the duracoat...

        Thanks for the suggestions.

Picked up the KleenStrip, some gloves and masks. I'm guessing even a copper bristle brush will mark up the 6061 Aluminum so maybe a plastic bristle brush? Of course the plastic might melt from the KleenStrip...

Wanted to report back in case somebody finds this in the archives one day.

HOLY CRAP, that KleanStrip works really really well. I got some heavy duty gloves and sprayed the lower with the KleanStrip. I flipped it over and sprayed the inside and other side and by the time I flipped it back over, huge sheets of the durabake were coming off. I used some shop towels to wipe most of the stuff off and then the front yard hose to blast it clean. The first application took of 99% of the durabake off, then I used a bit more and the brush to work the grooves.

The only area I can't get all the durabake off is in the mag release hole, but I don't see that mattering once it's refinished and put back together.

Now to find a place to get it anodized.

            BIG THANK YOU to Milspec714!

              Thanks OP!

I've got a vltor mur that needs to be stripped back to black and have been wondering the same thing.

Tagged for whenever I get around to that particular build.

Obama ended the gun control debate when he decided to arm the Syrian rebels with fully automatic machine guns and rocket launchers. He proved people need guns to protect themselves from tyranny. Did he give the rebels background checks before giving them real assault weapons?

                JASCO

                Paint and epoxy stripper.

                Works like magic.

Dont die though, that stuff can kill you without the right ventilation.
