    LR308 Bolt Catch Travel

Assembling a 308 lower - the bolt catch does not seem to have much travel compared to an AR. Does the spring need to be trimmed?

I assume you you mean your AR10 in comparison to an AR15. They are the same. Leave the spring alone

Right - same plunger and the same spring, but the catch itself is a little bit bigger on the AR10/308. On this build, the catch only moves (pivots) like 1/8" (if that); on an AR15 it moves about 1/4".

the bolt catch lever itself is different between AR-15 and LR-308. sounds like you have the AR-15 lever installed.

Did you use a CMMG 308 LPK? they use the AR-15 lever instead of LR-308.
Been gone too long. It's been 15 to 20 years since i had to shelf my guns. Those early years sucked.

I used a CMMG LPK in mine and had the same problem. I shortened the spring just a smidge and shortened the plunger just a bit, with a dremel, too since it was bottoming out.

Yes - it is a CMMG 308 LPK! Let me tell you - I am not impressed with their parts. The selector did not work (didn't have a positive detent feel) and I replaced it and now looks like their choice of bolt catch is questionable. I also had trouble with the magazine catch (threaded portion not long enough) and I fixed that with an AR10 catch. Oh yeah, and another thing - the CMMG bolt catch threaded pin would not fit into the forward boss. Also, the polished part of the trigger was machined with a 'trough' down the middle of it (it is not perfectly flat).

I am positive the catch is different. I keep a DPMS 308 lpk for.spare parts. I installed the one from that kit and if works fine.
Now I will look at the trigger.

I've had issues with cmmg safety levers as well :/ it was such a pain to get a replacement too that i shy away from cmmg lpk's.

I have had to mod 50 QD10 80% using the second step here:

It has not mattered which bolt catch, the 308 bolt catch does protrude further out to manually engage the bolt though.

Thanks WChutt. My issues have been with the QD308 80%er as well, but I thought they were all related to the CMMG LPK quality. I'll check out that thread. Appreciate the help!

New selector came in and it still doesn't work well. I think that Quentin Defense drilled the hole too far outboard for the detent pin. Also, the 308 specific bolt catch came in and while it has a tiny bit more travel than the AR15 one, it is not going to work. Looks like modification time. I will call QD up and get their opinion, too.
