What is black phospate finish?

Hello,

This barrel from AK builder (link below) has black phosphate finish. Does this mean it's already painted, or do I need to paint?

Also know as parkerizing

You can apply a finish over the Parkerizing if you want... it makes a good base for Duracoat. Otherwise, you don't need to do anything with it.

Unfortunately, that barrel shows as out of stock.
