Have someone do a semigloss Cerakote. I'm having my Bulgy 74M coated and the gunsmith is going to get the color close. If the gloss or color is slightly off, the only person who will know will only be you. If you wanna go cheaper, and be more authentic, I reccomend using black automotive paint and blending it to get the right matte/semigloss will replicate the original pretty well. I personally reccomend againt rustoleum BBQ paint because it rubs off way too easily, goes on way too thick. I found that out the hard way...If you need help with any stragglers, call a friend, because it's likely that they have a gun. America in particular have done exceptionally well taking care of the problem, as there are 1.12 guns for every 1 American citizen. So throw a rock, you'll probably hit a gun, pick up that gun, then shoot a zombie.Comment

You mean powder coat. It to thick. builds ups to much and will cause issues.Originally posted by Marcus von W.Many years ago I worked for a company that made retractable steps for motor homes. We had these painted a black electro-static "powder paint" finish that was attractive and durable. I wonder how something like this would work on AK's or AK parts like barrel and receiver.
Anyone here have any experience with this?

I used an original AMD65 FCG in my pistol build. I modified the sear to be semi auto only but, otherwise used the original parts. It has slop from the lack of a rate reducer but, I haven't found the need for spacers. In fact, it's the lightest, smoothest and crispest AK FCG I have.
For paint, either go cheap and easy to redo or go with an expensive professional coating. My stepson first parkerized then, primed and painted his build with a multi colored and textured Rustoleum. It came out really nice and cost less than $10.NRA Certified Pistol, Rifle, Shotgun and Metallic Cartridge Reloading Instructor

The spring marked "K" is what you use for a spacer. Cut off the two long wires and trim the coils as needed. You want it kind of loose, if not it will bind and render the disconnector ineffective.
As for paint, I use Krylon Barbeque paint, #1618. Make sure it says 1618, they make a couple different high heat paints and after trying about 20 different paints it was the Krylon 1618 that matches. But there's a technique to getting it right. You need to heat the parts up, blast the part first if you can or the paint won't last. Heat the parts up to around 175-200f and spray in 3-4 light coats. Keep it hot between coats and when your done, bake it for 4 hours at 200-225f. Let cool down on it's own.
If you get it right, it'll have that pebble like texture that the commie guns have. There is a pebble texture paint but the color is off. The only place I've found Krylon 1618 is O'Reillys/Kragens/ whatever the hell they call it in your area.
Prep is the key. When I used the Krylon on customer guns I prepped by blasting, degreasing, phosphate treatment, then heating and baking as I detailed above. When I did that, the Barbeque paint sticks and is very resistant to solvents.
This gun came through when the oven was down, I was able to bake the small parts (dust cover, gas tube, bolt and carrier) in the toaster oven but the barreled receiver didn't get baked. I should have waited but the customers gun had been there for a long time and the new elements for the oven hadn't arrived yet.
But you can see after spraying everything down with GunScrubber the paint on the small parts wasn't effected like the barreled receiver.
Bake it and prep it right and that will give the best chance to have it last.
