Thanks for the direction to those that pmd me - I appreciate it. However, still no luck or response from anyone here that can help me or fit me into a group build. I know BUILD PARTIES are ATF prohibitive so not looking for a party. Just a group who shares knowledge, common interests in my rights per the constitution and requests donations of USD80 or so for the equipment, electricity and burgers. Bueller, Bueller?CA/TX -
AFAIK
Incorrect. Build parties are not ATF prohibitive.
The issue was a company that made 80% AR lowers also hosted a build. The ATF concluded that amounted to manufacturing a 100% lower, Not assisting a build.
AK build parties have yet to be affected.
What we need is an AR flat? But where to get front and rear trunnions???Last edited by kcstott; 06-21-2013, 2:48 PM.Comment

I see what you mean regarding the 80/100 thing. However, I thought the ATF terminology in the letter they wrote (anyone w a link?) did not specifically state what you said and instead used the words "BP"... So, in court BP is BP.
Ill look for some AR flats and trunnions if you help me machine my AK lower w a press

Hey Calgunners, I just read the ATF letter and spoke to the AFT directly and I want to help clarify a few things before wrong information continues to spread. It appears that some on this thread are implying that it is illegal to complete your 80% lower at a machine shop. This is false…
The letter that was received by “80% Arms”, stating that they cannot complete these lowers, is due to the fact that they do not have the proper FFL and setup. You CAN still mill these paperweights out at a company who has the proper licensing or proper setup such as Arms Specialty and Tool in Orange.
The “manufacturing license” (07FFL) is needed if a shop is making 80% lowers and then completing them. You cannot make 80% lowers and then complete them in the same shop if you do not have the 07FFL. This is just logical that a shop doing both is technically make 100% lowers and thus considered a manufacturer. However, it is still legal for one shop to make 80% lowers and another shop to rent the machine so that you can complete your personal lowers.
We already have enough laws governing our “freedoms” let’s not exaggerate or add to these laws with our personal commentaries. Let’s try to keep it to the facts.
If anyone has information contrary to what is stated above, please correct me and send me your source for the information. My source of information comes from the Santa Ana ATF field office.
Hope this helps.
Thats where I got my info fromComment

Since you're German, instead of "Octoberfest" would it be called an AK-fest?
(Sounded funnier in my head)
IIRC the ATF letter pertains to shops making their own 80% AR lowers and then having "finishing gatherings" on the same property where the lower is made. Nothing to do with AK gatherings. Exactly as kc has stated.Originally posted by TeddyBallgameI've never understood why any of our Constitutional rights are governed by the very institution they were put in place to protect us from.Originally posted by POLICESTATEIt is not wise to create criminals where none exist. I am in LA/OC area... Thanks again for the messages... Gotta figure out what route I wanna go... Group build are cost effective but also seem to be full for the summer and 1 one 1 is higher cost but is available and also probably really learn a lot as there is 100% attention on one build and one person...Last edited by Squirly; 06-24-2013, 9:32 AM.CA/TXComment
