    Sistema Colt 1911 Problems

First of all thanks for viewing and any help given. Went shooting with the family and everything started out great. Pistol cycled well and shot like a dream. After about 50 rounds of mixed loads the pistol began to double feed/fail to eject. Swapped mags and all was well until the slide locked forward. The pistol would chamber one round and jam without firing. I manage to get the slide open. Later that night I stripped her down and thoroughly inspected everything. I found metal shavings stuck in the space between the barrel link and the fitting on the barrel. The link still moves freely but there is considerable wear on the barrel and it looks as if it is actually warped. The slide will not close entirely and be put on safe without it locking forward. I think filing that deformed edge down will take care of the problem, but since I am not a gunsmith, I don't want to make any stupid decisions. And I would also like to know what caused this so I don't make the same mistake twice.

You had something in between the barrel lower lugs and the vertical impact surface of the frame. Did the metal shavings resemble anything you could identify, primer, primer anvil maybe. You should look closely because something was in there that damaged the lower lugs and it looks like the lower lugs are bowed open. You can file off the peened areas so they are flush with the sides and it should be fine as long as there are no cracks in the lower lugs.

You really need to find the source of the metal pieces that caused the damage. Any pictures of the vertical impact surface area of the frame?

The metal shavings did look like bits of primer. It definitely wasn't brass. Curiosity got the best of me so I did some delicate dremel work and everything seems fine now, no cracks anywhere from what I could tell.

Something very unforgiving was in there, the gouges almost look too big to be a primer anvil, make sure that whatever it was isn't imbedded in the frame and it is no longer in there. Good luck with that.

How is the sistema? It is supposed to be one of the better ones out there as far as clones go.

I cleaned the hell out of it and everything look good. I was looking at some of my brass and found an unfired dud that had huge gouges out of the side of the bullet. I am guessing this was the culprit. As far as the pistol, it's beautiful. Fit and finish is fantastic and is a dream to shoot. Pretty accurate as well.
