    AR-10

    Good Morning Cal Gunners,

I have an AR-10 lower I am working on and the treaded bolt catch pin is stripped. Any ideas how to get it out?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Get a pin punch and push on the screw from the opposite side as you are turning it out. It may catch enough to come out.

Or are you talking about the allen head. If thats the case get a metric set and see if on is close enough but slightly over size to fit the head. other then tah and you will have to grab the next size up allen wrench and grind it to fit.

      Thanks KC.

Yeah it's the Allen headed screw and there's only one hole for the pin.

I will try out your tips and let you know.

The threads are stripped or the Allen part is rounded?

That blows. You need a drill extractor.

I have a couple of extractor sets with cobalt LH drill bits. The drill bits work most of the time. As soon as the bite into the broken or stripped fastener, it will just pull it right out.
Sometimes a Torx tool can be hammered into a buggered sockethead and will bite in enough to remove the screw.

The problem is the location of the the fouled up screw. He's going to need an extension to get a screw extractor to it.

                  ^that....

i have done this before as well, LH drill set should get you going, make sure you chuck this thing up in a vice and go very very slowly.

                  good luck

Could not get my screw extractor in the tight spot by the bold release. I ended up having to use an acid like solution to dissolve the pin out. Worked out great.

                    Thank you for everyone's help.
