WUM 1 Single stack to double stack.

    Hi all,

I have a WUM 1 with a single stack trunnion. Has anyone milled out the front trunnion to accept a double stack or is getting a double stack trunnion and replacing it easier?

Not sure about WUMs but WASRs have standard trunnions. The receiver is the difference. It has to be milled out to accept the fatter mag. Either way, I can help you. I would imagine replacing the trunnion would be the hard way.

The magwell has already been hogged out. The trunnion isn't wide enough to accept a double stack. Buellster it's a RAW. Too bad you aren't in the SF Bay, I'd take it to you to look at.

You'll definitely need a mill to do this properly. Probably shouldn't be too terribly difficult for someone with the proper eqiupment, and you wont have to worry about correcting headspace and re-doing all the rivets(and possibly some of the rivet holes) like you would with a new trunnion.

Normally I would say a new trunnion wold be easier, rivets take nothing with right tools when compared to jigging up a receiver with 16" of barrel sticking out there.
You say it's a RAW, that means if you swap the trunnion the receiver must be destroyed and no more RAW. Milling is your only option.

I know you're more up on the intricacies of ca law than I am so I'll take your word on this. I gotta ask though. Why would replacing the trunnion require destroying his RAW receiver?

On imported guns the serial number is on the trunnion and sometimes the receivers but not always think Saigas. If you swap the trunnion, where did the serial number for that registeted assault weapon come from? The part you replaced, no more RAW.
You might be able to get away with it if the receiver was serialized, but even then it's supposed to match the trunnion. Kit guns are different as they are US made and serialized on the receiver only.
