1911 sticking when being racked

Colt 80 National match gold cup.

When I rack the slide, it'll rack a few times, then I can't move the slide more then a 1/8 or 1/4 inch, then after i release the slide i can rack it.

Dont know if something in the trigger group is binding, or the plunger lever is sticking...

any idea's?

But sure year it was made, but it has Eliason sights.
Bought is used, but unfired.

I've put about 5k rounds through it.

weird things is was fine before the last time i took the slide off (paint the sights high viz), put it back together, and this.

I've tried taking the slide off and on about 10 times... no go

have you checked to see if there are any new burns on the slide or new wear spots from a dent on the frame etc...

have you taken any parts out of the frame and maybe put the wrong pin in some place causing the disconecter to bind on the frame?

again check for wear on the disconnecter you can soot the frame and rack the slide i would also soot the hammer and basiclly everything and check for excess wear that would tell you whats sticking

last spot i can think of at 5 am after both kids woke up is check your slide catch and that general area it could be binding because of a magazine problem.

can you explain the "soot" process? not sure what you mean

btw - i didnt remove and parts from the frame... just barrel, bushing, spring, guise rod, slide lock.

i replace the slide lock, issue still occuring

or use dykem pr a paint marker. Then it will show all the wear high and low spots.


Is it possible ejector cam loose?

Do you have the recoil spring installed properly? Smaller end of the spring goes on the recoil spring guide.

Series 80 have that lil leg in the frame that sticks up. You know which one I'm talking about .. it's a pain in the butt to line up with your thumb safety. Check it out make sure it's not staying in the up position or binding on something.

So what happened??

i took out the spring, guide rod, slide stop, barrel bushing. I can rack the slide without it stopping... i can feel it tight in a few spots, but since i've never done that before, i dont know how it should feel. have to take apart my kimber or les baer and compair

I'm in calabasas, and its driving me more crazy -

As i stated, i didnt do anything but remove the slide to paint the sights. Never had the issue before.
Taken it apart countless times before for cleanings, etc. never a issue.
