Bushmaster free float

Howdy,

I recently finished building my first AR and I had a quick question about my upper.....

I have a bushmaster varminter 24'' upper and I was wondering how to get the actual free float tube off (for cleaning). It looks like it just unscrews but I dont want to put to much pressure on it in fear that it may break. Any help would be highly appreciated, thanks.

Free float tubes aren't supposed to come off unless you want to replace them, in which case you need a gunsmith to do it for you.

If it's a two piece, the tube just threads off the barrel nut.
If it's a one piece, you need to pull the gas tube out first and then use a special wrench from behind.

I installed one of the standard Bushmaster FF tubes using a strap wrench. It worked great. I believe it was made by Klein tools. I am not familiar with the varminter type FF tubes so this may not work for you.
