    Muzzle Brake lining up incorrectly

I got an upper for a featureless build from PSA with a flash hider installed; since this is illegal I also got a Yankee Hill muzzle brake to replace it with. However, after taking off the fh and installing the brake it seems to be lined up almost exactly 180 degrees off. Is this an installation problem, or will I need to take material off the brake/ space?

    Crush washer or peel washers.

So then this is a common problem?

        Very common, crush washers work.

Get a crush washer or send it to Randall and have him cut down the shoulder in order to clock the brake in the correct position.

After some research I realize it shipped with a crush washer that i thought was just a bushing; to crush it do i just need to tighten the brake down harder? I was fairly gentle with it to avoid breaking anything.

You should replace the crush washer. Can't be re-crushed

I should have been more clear; the YHM brake shipped with a new crush washer, and i just need to crush it now. Better to do it in a vice or on the rifle?

Do you have an action block or barrel clamp to clamp it down? If not, take it to a local smith and have it done.

It will probably cost you less than $20.

Think about what you just asked??

You asked if it was correct to crush the washer in a vise. Now think about that for a moment. You want precise alignment of your muzzle brake with something that you are going to try to crush in a vise??

You see where I'm going here.
Not trying to be little you or anything just trying to get you to see the bigger picture.
And follow Randall's advice just tighten it down more till it's lined up. Thats it.

and they require a ridiculous force to tighten them up. Make sure your barrel clamp is up to the task.

colt specified 15-20 lbs of torque but i say 30 to 40 is more like it. you don't want to over torque it.if it lined up at 20 or more i would be ok with that.i myself prefer peel washers, but thats my personal preference.

Yeah Not really a huge amount of torque

Grease, tighten down the crush washer 1/4 turn past tight. Loosen. Tighten down another 1/4 turn past tight, loosen. Repeat until desired clock is achieved. That's how I did mine.

But you're definitely not gonna do it if you don't have a way to clamp down the barrel.
