    anodization removal

For 80% AR receivers that were anodized prior to milling, what would be the downside of stripping the anodization after milling is completed then reanodixing to #III specs so as to anodize the holes and mag well?

The cost. Anodized 80's usually cost more. Other than that I cant think of a downside.

      A waste of money.
Only two defining forces have ever offered to die for you,
Jesus Christ and the American Soldier.
One died for your soul; the other for your freedom.

It will remove appx .002-.004 of aluminum. So when you have them plate it, make sure they put .002 per side minimum. Ask them to measure it for you afterwards. Some platers put .001-.0012 and call it .002

For one anodizing is not plating. Also just measure the part before and after stripping note the difference and this will be half the layer thickness you will need to add.
Remember that anodizing is grown on the surface and into the surface equally.

You can strip it by soaking in a mild lye solution. 1 tablespoon per gallon of water. Wear gloves and rinse in clean water. Don't soak for longer then an hour.
But unless you understand what you are doing I'd let the anodized strip and re anodize.
