    Charging Handel Scrapes End Plate

Hello... This is my first post and build. All the info on here was great in helping me decide what to go with when putting together my first AR-15.

My rifle is all done but I have a minor issue... My BCM CH rubs against my end plate and causes very minor resistance. I'm not sure if to change out the plate or have it filed down? Do gun shops repaint/finish the part if they file it?

    I attached some pics...

File it yourself! Very little. Then hit with a marker. Believe me, youll see wear marks all over your ar in no time. Congrats and welcome!

Hit it with a few draw strokes of a file and touch up the finish using cold blue.
Gunsmith will easily be able to do this work while you wait.

Maybe your armorer could do it for you?

Unless the wear bothers you, its not a big deal. The lower is aluminum so it shouldn't rust. As those before me stated, if you want to prevent the scraping, just use a file or dremel to touch it up. I believe birchwood Casey also has a product called "aluminum black". That may help restore the dark finish

I'm thinking i'll swing by my local gun shop and have them file and touch up... would metal shavings get in the lower and harm the weapon?

Sorry for all the noob questions.. with our work guns we just shoot and qualfiy so im learning as I go.

Take a file and do it yourself. Go to a Target and in the nail section buy a metal nail file. Work on it a bit, then touch it up with Burchwood Casey Aluminum black. It will touch up the steel plate just fine. Shavings won't be a problem.

It'll be fine. Your issue is just cosmetic. You could dump a handfull of of filings in there and your gun would probably never notice.

Thanks for all the replies... The CH actually catches on the end plate so I guess I will have to file it.

Are all end plates the same thickness? If I bought another would I have the same issue?

Pretty much all the same. Where in SD are you? I'm assuming you don't mean South Dakota! I can take a look at it if you want.

Sup isplice.. I live down in the Eastlake area of SD.

I actually took the rifle to Team Big Shot where I had it done and they filed it down for me and put black paint.. Looks ok. Still getting some minior rubbing on the castle nut as well.

Did they charge you for that? If so I should become a gun smith

Your lower is out of spec.
The castle nut and plate shuould NOT be that close to the top edge of the lower.

What woule be outta spec randall? The bored hole that was threaded or the whole rear assembly?

If thats the case, i can imagine wearing on the upper receiver from buffer contact.

Buffer tube hole location is too high.

Concur with Randall. Checking my newer JD with one that is about 2 years old, the buffer tube on the newer one is at least 1/16" (if not a little more) higher than on the older one. Haven't had any scrapping problems with the new one, but I'm using a regular charging handle, not a BCM Gunfighter. Don't know what has been going on with JD lately, but they seem to be dropping the ball on machining and QC.
