    Rear Takedown Pin Xtra Tight

I just completed an AR build and find that the rear takedown pin is so tight, I have to tap it thru both ways to use it.

Before placing the upper on...the pin fit well in the lower.

    Any suggestions ?

    From a DPMS Pats kit.

    Thanks

Remove the pin. Clamp the action closed and run a .250 reamer through the hole.

Doesn't anybody recommend shooting it before cutting on it?

I had the same problem, but the more you use the rifle the looser it will get. I used to tap mine as well.

Mine was so bad I had to tap it in with a hammer. But it's getting easier with use

Really?? Shooting it is going to help the fit??

Two ways to fix it. 1: ignore it and let it wear in. 2: Ream the hole as an assembly cleaning up the fraction of a thousandth of an inch that is causing it to bind.

If the pin is going in but it's difficult to push Reaming will just clean up a very minor misalignment and solve all the issues. If the pin requires a mallet the reamer will fix that as well.

Machined parts will always require minor fitting, Milspec even more.

Shooting can loosen up tight pins by knocking down high spots. I think shooting before removing metal is always better.

If tight is bad then AK's must be the most accurate guns built.
