.308 AR barrel

I need to find a source for 2 custom .308 AR barrels. They are for an AR10 upper, but I want a standard rifle length gas system - not the 3/4 in (?) longer Armalite gas system. There are some other specs too, but I won't bore you with them... I've seen a couple of different places out there, but wondering if anyone has had any first hand experience/recommendations of anyone?

Armalite rifle length barrels use a gas tube that's 3/16" longer than an AR-15 gas tube and the barrel fits regular AR-15 length handguards.
DPMS rifle length barrels use shorter rifle length handguards and a regular length AR-15 gas tube with som extra bend put into it.

What are you doing specifically that the length of the gas system matters sp specifically?

What I want is a gas system that will work with a KAC FF RAS. My understanding is - PLEASE educate me if I am wrong! - with a 'standard' Armalite rifle length gas system there is a gap between the gas block and the end of the RAS. I'd like the gas block to be as close as possible to the end of the RAS - sorta like a stock one.

As for the barrel config, I'm looking for a 20" Douglas SS, heavy profile, 1:10 twist chambered to do 168s mostly... and a AR10T SS picatinny gas block. I think that covers it...

What receiver are you building on?
A KAC RAS will not screw on to an Armalite receiver.
The threads are different pitches.

Armalite upper...my understanding is the substitution of an AR10T barrel nut for the KAC one will allow it to happen... yes, no, mebbe, ???? According to Quarterbore....The status of using an Free Float R.A.S. tube on an AR-10 is such that I have heard from two people that use FF RAS tubes from an SR-25 on an AR-10 without problems. I have been told that the AR-10 will accept the SR-25 parts including the SR-25 barrel nut.

If the barrel nuts unterchange within the RAS, it should work.
The designs are identical, just the threads are different.
I have never actually had an SR25 RAS in my hands to measure this.
They are not exactly easy to get...

Absolutely... and not inexpensive... why I'm trying to figger out if I can get the barrel I want in a 'reasonable' amount of time for a 'reasonable' price. Once I figure out if I can get the barrel I'd like and confirm the thread pitch/barrel nut interchangability, I'll pull the trigger on the SR25 FF RAS.

If I can't confirm the interchangability I'll prolly have to go with a LaRue 11.0 (since they don't have a 12.0 for the AR10) and shorten up the gas system on the AR10 to pull the gasblock up against the front of the LT 11.0. That is unless there is a way to use the LT13.2 and put the gas block in front of that rail...

FYI the reason I want to use the picatinny gas block in front of the rail is I want to use a gas block mounted front BUIS....

BTW I'm open to and will consider all suggestions...

Starting from scratch, anything can be done.
I have gas tubes that are 2" longer than regular AR-15 gas tubes.
These could be shortened to fit in front of a 13.2.
Of course I'm not taking any new orders for custom barrels though.

Why don't you just use the longer Larue with a standard barrel and a low-profile gas block and mount the back up sight on the rail?
