    7.62x39 Mags

Where can I buy a few 7.62x39 mags for an AR15 build I am thinking about starting? Any thoughts on building a 7.62x39 AR-15? The good Bad or Ugly?

I have one. I used a colt upper. Mags are kinda hard to find and they are sold out in most places. The C-products mags are pretty good. There are also the spot-welded, AR/AK mags, which look ugly but work fine. 44mag.com carries them and they have a feature that will e-mail you when they are back in stock.

You can actually use 10 round, or 20 round .223 mags that are not curved. They work fine...

I just built a 7.62x39 AR too! I only have two of the colt factory 5 rounders and was wanting something larger as well. You say the 10rd .223's work fine. How many 7.62 rounds fit in that? And, I'd imagine that since the 7.62x39 has the tapered case that it does, anti-tilt followers would cause more problem that they would solve, correct?
"Well, looky here. If it ain't the fuzz".

I don't remember exactly but I think it was 7. It's not much of an increase over the 5 rounders but it might save someone from having to buy new mags, if they didn't have any. In your case, you already have 5 rounders, so I suppose they wouldn't be of much benefit.

Well, it's not that 5.56mm isn't tapered, it's that 7.62x39mm has more taper. If you look at the purpose-built 7.62AR magazines, the curve is a lot more aggressive than a 5.56mm mag, so you're right; replacing the follower in a regular AR mag wouldn't help.

Your best bet is to try to get some C-products mags. Promag makes them too, but they aren't very good. They seem to bind up in the middle and get stuck...

I have an x39 AR, completely custom built. It seems to work fine, once I managed to figure out an issue I was having...

I am using the MGI Reliability Bolt. The bolt itself works fine but initially it was popping brass disks out of the Wolf brass. Typically this is an issue seen on some SKS or AK rifles where the firing pin hole has a sharp edge and it cuts out brass disks from the primer like a cookie cutter. The brass disks were getting blown back into the firing pin channel and occasionally causing a failure to fire by jamming up the firing pin. I had the lip of the fp hole "relieved" slightly and have not had an issue since.

I use the C-Products mags and they seem to work all right. If you can get 30 round mags then magblocks.com has the necessary block to make them CA compliant.

Good luck with your project! I had a lot of fun building mine up and you will too!

i used my magpul 20 rounds and could reliably feed 4-5 rounds of 762x39
