    Mosin nagant barrel threading question

I just got my first mosin nagant and I'm wanting to cut the barrel shorter and add a muzzle brake. I got the muzzle brake and a die kit for cutting 15mm x 1 right hand threads. Since I'm cutting the barrel down the diameter will be wrong for the die kit. What do I need to cut the diameter down to in order to make my threading die work? Is there any way to do it without a lathe?

If you could find a piloted boxing cutter, that would do it.
Boxing cutters are usually not piloted though as they are mounted in screw machines and used to "box out" a piece of bar stock before you run a die on to it to make threads.
A screw machine is a fully automated mechanical lathe.

What brakes com in 15mmx1 right hand threads?

Almost all combloc muzzle brakes will use 14mm x1 Left hand threads.

Looks like $140 to $150 in tooling just to get the barrel diameter down to size.
Then you have to buy the die and a way to re-crown after shortening.

I do the whole job including shortening, threading and re crowning for less than the cost of the tools that reduce the barrel diameter.
I guarantee my work is higher quality work than can be obtained without using a lathe...

I agree, it doesn't make sense to buy tools like this if you're only going to use them once. Dan-O, is there a hackerspace near you that has a lathe you can use?
