Links to step by step 80% lower threads

As it says, I am looking for threads on building my 80% lower...

Not the machining or assembly aspects but what steps are needed and what forms would be needed for the ATF here in Cali.

    I.E.
    1) buy lower
    2) machine serial and caliber etc
    4) register with ATF????
    3) machine trigger slot etc.
    5?

Just looking for info to get informed.... I cannot find any threads that lay this aspect out.

Not that I'm old guard but the information you seek is on this sight, many times over.

    Here's one:
"Nothing in the world can take the place of Persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent. The slogan 'Press On' has solved and always will solve the problems of the human race." Calvin Coolidge

Only steps 1 and 3 the way you have it numbered (sic? - out of order in OP) if you plan to keep it for private use. Anything else requires much more explaining.

I read the thread but it did not answer all my questions.

It 'looks' like there is no need to register the firearm as long as you can legally purchase and own the same weapon?

          So is this correct?
          1) Buy 80%
          2) Have any engraving you would like done while it is still a paperweight (many recommend some form of serial # ..initials and manufacture date or your birth date)
          3) Mill lower to 100%
          4) coat or anodize
          5) assemble

          Is this correct?

Sounds correct, though mine is not engraved. I also keep in my bag some memos from this site and others just in case. For my build that started as an 80% I have this FAQ from the ATF website and highlighted the quote below:

Q: Does the GCA prohibit anyone from making a handgun, shotgun or rifle?
With certain exceptions a firearm may be made by a non-licensee provided it is not for sale and the maker is not prohibited from possessing firearms. However, a person is prohibited from assembling a non-sporting semi-automatic rifle or non-sporting shotgun from imported parts. In addition, the making of an NFA firearm requires a tax payment and approval by ATF. An application to make a machine gun will not be approved unless documentation is submitted showing that the firearm is being made for a Federal or State agency.
            [18 U.S.C. 922(o) and (r), 26 U.S.C. 5822, 27 CFR 478.39, 479.62 and 479.105]
I also keep the Sacramento PD bullet button memo and the calguns flowchart, these are all just in case things as I want to avoid confrontations by crusading LEO.

Basically along the lines of this thread: http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/s...d.php?t=611978
