    chopping down a 91/30

Im planning on cutting down the barrel on a mosin 91/30 for a sporter project. Wondering if anyone has any insight on this. like how short is too short for this rifle. I realize cutting the barrel down will inherently effect the accuracy, but Im hopiing that free floating the barrel and having the action properly bedded into a quality stock will bring the groups back together. Also, what degree is acceptable for a cutting a new crown after cutting the barrel?
    any input is appreciated!

I have cut down a few mosin nagants.
I have not shot them for groups, but I would expect the accuracy to be the same, if not better due to my new crown wing better than the old crown.
I have cut them back to 13.5" and perm attached an AMD brake.
I have cut them to just over 16" as well.
The real short barrels get really loud.
I would probably recommend staying at 18" to 20" for a good balanced field rifle.

what type of crown did you cut? im planning on using this as a fun pig gun, maybe deer depending on the accuracy after its all said and done so i think im gonna keep the barrel around 22-24.
does the AMD make that much of a difference?

I just cut the crown straight out, like this:

The AMD brake was chosen for it's length and loudness.

I cut down a MN barrel to 12.5" and perm attached a 4" AMD brake. Pretty much copied AJAX's build cause it was so awesome. Crown was cut with a 11deg cutter from brownells.

Post pics when you are done! I have been considering the same. Any more pics of the muzzle break?
