My favorite so far has been a YHM upper with the gas tube smashed in upside down.
OP - Please take that thing to someone who knows what they are doing.Artist formally known as CEO of Tracy Rifle and PistolComment

Make yourself a simple barrel vise by clamping two pieces of wood together in a vise. Drill out between them with a bit just slightly smaller than the diameter of your barrel. (Or cut a V groove into each of them.) Clamp back in vise tightly and remove offending muzzle device. If it's still on there to tight to remove and you're sure it's not pinned torch heat the muzzle break to break it loose. You don't want to get crazy with it or it will change the finish color or worse damage the heat treating. But if you add heat slowly and evenly around the brake and watch the joint you'll usually see a wisp of smoke come out of the joint as the locktite breaks loose. After you get it off strip the rest of the upper down and check to see if you've either sheared barrel indexing pin or just spun the barrel in the extension. You'll have to address that issue either way at this point.Last edited by Rust; 04-13-2013, 12:46 PM.Comment

HUGE PROPS to Wilde Built Tactical in La Mesa. Took my upper to them this morning and glad I did. As I said I am not a gunsmith by any means so I let them have their way with her and what they found was kinda scary. First, the barrel extension was literally able to be spun off by hand. no torque what so ever. Second, and this was probably the result of me being a knucklehead last night, the gas tube was broken. Oh, and the muzzle break was on there tight enough as though it was clamped by the hand of god
SO the resulting prognosis was to say the hell with it and *build* an new upper. The guys at Wilde Built were great. New ****lined barrel(not chrome but I forget what he said), new gas tube, new lo-pro block, new free float rail, new foregrip, and even a new taclight just because. Oh and new gasrings and bolt as mine was rather worn out. And they installed my new compensator which was the cause of this whole thing in the first place.
Thanks a lot guys for the help and huge appreciation and shout out to the guys of Wilde Built. Great bunch of guys there; price was right on, and service was fast and extremely informative and professional. Definitely lucky to have these guys as fellow Calgunners
