My understanding is that the threading on a buffer tube is the same between mil-spec and commercial (otherwise there would be 2 different types of lower receveivers). Is this correct? If so, has anyone ever had trouble installing a buffer tube and had to remove anodizing to get the tube installed?

The threads are the same(or at least should be). I personally have never had a problem(4 or so buffer tubes, in different lowers) but I won't say that it is not possible to need to do that.
What brands are the lower and buffer tube? The actual value of above $.02 is less than $.01 after taxes.

The lower was from an 80% and I believe there was a mistake in the anodizing process that added enough thickness to prevent threading. Had a similar problem with the take-down pin holes and the shop reamed them.Comment

Note that the M16 blueprint requires the buffer and pistol grip holes to be threaded after anodizing.Comment
