Heat treating service?

I have some parts from a C.96 broom handle Mauser that need to be heat treated. Does anyone know of a good gunsmith who offers a heat treating services?

You don't send parts to a gunsmith to be heat treated. You send them to a heat treat shop.

Ahh yes you can send parts to be heat treated to a Gunsmith especially if they specialize in older guns as most parts for hammers, sears and triggers were case hardened or heat treated for hardness.


Try PISCO as the Master Gunsmith there started with a degree in Metalurgy then went into gunsmithing ...... they know there stuff when it comes to metal treatments for firearms. They also deal with alot of very old firearms so you can be sure the right type of treatment would be used to match what was done originally.

Well lets be clear. I wouldn't send parts to just any gunsmith. As few know anything about metallurgy. Pisco is an exception.

Pacmet can do anything you like. Just tell them what the material is and they will do the rest. They are very experience in firearms heat treating and re heat treating.

Anyone that can properly case harden a Mauser action has to know WTF they are doing.

kcstott so ur saying that even after we spot treat receivers, like at a build party we can then get it re-treated for more strength?

No. Because you weapon is all ready assembled. If you built a flat welded in the rails and drilled the holes yes. As soon as the trunnions are attached your pretty much done. You should not heat treat the trunnion or the rivets.
