I have a question regarding crowning of teh muzzle on a rifle. Why is it seemed to be done with a reamer rather than just cutting the muzzle when the barrel is chucked up in a lathe? Is there really that big of a difference?

In all reality as long as the reamer is good and true then no.
But its very easy to get chatter with a hand reamer and very hard to get it out with hand tools once its there.Comment

Piloted crowning cutters are for people without a lathe.
