Sorry if this has been covered to death, but I tried searching both through this search function and through Google, quickly get mired down in multiple threads which causes confusion.

Can I legally build a 1911A1 from blueprints and a solid block of material (aluminum or steel)?

Assuming that I am legally able to do so, can I use the voluntary registration form?

In order to voluntary register it, I would put a serial number, manufacturer's name, city of manufacture and a model number. Anything else need to be on it?

you build it = LEGAL You do NOT have to serialize it you do NOT have to register it!

Like you said as long as you are LEGALLY able to posses firearms.

You can build it. You don't need to register it. You don't legally need to serialize or mark it with build information....but try explaining that to officer friendly.

I mark mine. You can get creative with the markings and information too.

I will warn you it is a serious task. Lots and lots of machining. I know someone who has done.this about two years ago. I would say the finished product could compete with the top of the line Wilson Models.

Go for it! If you fail that just means you will get tend or 3rd one right.

I thought you needed manufacture and serial information for pistols?
