OK.. I have one of those Russian imported Remington $99 single shot shotguns.. yes, cheap but great guns! I can consistantly break 22- 25 clays a round.. problem... it has a wooden buttplate.. I need a cushioned buttpad and still maintain the length of pull... anyone know who can do the work? As in measure, order a buttpad that will closely fit and install ind fit it?

Disk sander, files, sand paper and tape. Measure the existing pad, match the dimensions to the sizes produced by pad makers like Pachmyr, Limb Saver; Small, Meduim, Large, XL.
Remove stock from receiver.
Make sure your stock has a good flat surface, you may need to make a cut on the table saw. Tape the end of the stock with three wraps of painters tape. line up the pad, mark the screw holes, pre-drill screw holes screw the pad and spacer(s) down. Grind off excess the pad and spacer material using the disk sander [make sure to keep the stock at the correct agle when grinding on disk sander so pad has correct contour]. When you get close to the tape or cut into the first layer start using the file to remove the more material until the pad fit flush wiith the stock. Finish sand or use steel wool to smooth the pad.Comment

Depends on how you want it to look, if you just want a pad on there and don't care what it looks like, just order a pad and screw it on. If you want it to be ground down so that it follows the lines of the guns your gonna pay more, if you want to keep same overall length of pull your gonna have to pay even a little bit more as the stock will have to be cut down for the 1" pad to be added and keep the lenght the same.
Just as an idea, we do at our shop $45 in labor to grind to fit a pad(your paying for the shower I have to take, grinding pads is very messy), plus the cost of the pad for $40. If we have to cut the stock it's $10 more. It adds up, but it's definitely worth it, especially since you have a hard pad on it now."There are over 550,000,000 firearms in worldwide circulation, that's one firearm for every 12 people. The only question is, how do we arm the other 11?" -Lord of WarComment
