    Adjusting Novak sights

I have a 1911 with the low Novak sights. Somehow the rear sight has drifted to the right (as seen from the rear).
I have attempted adjusting it by loosening the set screw and tapping it to the left with a punch and brass/nylon hammer.
All this has done is leave idiot marks. I do not own a vice.
Should I simply give up and take the gun to a smith, or is there hope I can fix the sights myself?

I guess my question is either stupid or not sexy enough.
Sorry to have asked. Maybe I should have known the answer from the get-go.
OKfine. I asked friends for help. Got Zero answers. My bad.
But I would still like advice on how to deal with these sights. This is my main gun.

Sorry I can't help you Mike, but maybe you'll get more action in one of the other groups, like general gun discussions, or California handguns? Good luck to you.

mcmikel, you have the right idea, loosen the set screw, and tap away. I'd use a brass, delrin or nylon drift punch so as not to mar your finish. I did the same for mine and it worked, although when I tightened the set screw it offset a little. Try again, but use a little more force, and it should move.
An err on the side of caution, is still an err. - me

Novak sight if fit by Novak are on the tight side.

You need a good stable platform to beat on.
