How do I take this off?

I want to install a regular barrel nut on this, but I have to take it off first. Can someone give me some advice?

sorry. it should work now. I also believe this is a YHM type of barrel nut for their rail. I just dunno how to remove it and install a regular one.

undo the set screws on the underside of the gas block, pull the gas block w/gas tube forward so you can unscrew your barrel nut using an appropriate wrench

seems like I'll be having a hard time undoing that... Maybe I should just have someone help me with it.

If your in the OC just drop it off at rifle gear. The barrel nut wrench might be different between the two.
Been gone too long. It's been 15 to 20 years since i had to shelf my guns. Those early years sucked.

                      you need one of these.

                      And one of these

                      Both from Brownell's

Then you can remove the nut with no issues.

That IS a yhm barrel nut.
My warning on those is that because the aluminum is pretty thin, do NOT use a wrench with short pins.
The YHM wrench has pins that are 3/4" long that engage the holes so they will not damage the nut while removing or installing it.

I have the tools to do this job correctly if you need assistance.

That wrench will not work with the barrel nut pictured in the first post.

If you don't care about that, get an adjustable spanner wrench and have at it.

The smart, learn from their own mistakes.
The others, well......they just never learn.
