I have seen those youtube videos where people make their own 1911...love this gun so I finally decided to go ahead and buy a frame the parts to make the gun. Problem is that the frame I bought is about 60% done and I don't have a milling machine...should I just give up?? Or is there anyway I can make this frame work?

Pictures of the frame would be good. I am finishing up a drill fixture for the 1911 to post for sale. I have rail guides for the slide rails and the mainspring housing that allows an individual to locate and cut the rail slots for both. The drill fixture is set up to locate off various features of the unfinished castings/frames. Let me know if you are interested, it is almost finished.

There are lots of posts...

You will need dependant on your level of patience. A drill press, lots of drill bits to go along. Misc files and shapes and sizes. A freind with a milling machine or a good rotary tool and much more patience.

If you can do that and have some craftman ability you may have a shot!

well I've searching and searching and saw someone that was able to make KTO kit without a milling machine and just a drill press and a dremel tool. Scary part this frame seems to need more work than theirs.

I believe that is a double action frame and none or very few standard 1911 parts will fit. I know someone was trying to convert one over in the Sarco p12/13 thread but I dont think he has gotten that far yet.

Personally I wouldnt do an 80% without a mill for the rails but nothing is impossible. Somehow we got from the cave man era to now so along the way a lot of people put in a bunch of hard work to make something out of nothing with limited tools but I dont really enjoy banging my head against a wall.

The drill fixture I have for the 1911 won't work on that frame, I don't think there is one available for that frame, and most of those parts definitely won't work in that frame as it is right now. Sorry

No one's saying it... so I will. GIVE UP.

Even a 80% frame needs a milling machine & drill press to do it right for a 1911. I'm kind of confused that you jumped into a 60/80% without some form of milling experience. You best bet is to PPT a complete in the white frame so you can use the parts kit.

Call me crazy but if a Vietcong jungle gunsmith can make a working copy of a 1911 by hand then it can be done by us dummies with dremels ,clamps and care. Measure very often, go very slow , make small holes and cuts and if then if its right, then go a bit bigger and then check another 5 times, use that thing between your ears and think deeply, the worst that can happen is that you fail but you will still have fun trying and learn much.

You can do it with what you have there in the pics. Its going to take some significant effort to get the frame up to speed...
