    M1 Carbine Gunsmithing

I just got a new barrel and I was wondering how does one go about stickin' the thing on?

I probably need a reamer and headspacing tools, that's minimal.

worse comes to worse, anyone down here in OC that does this stuff?

You might try Joe Rios at Republic Gun Works (Or something like that, can't exactly remember the name) in Irwindale. He might actually have the receiver wrench, reamer and headspace gauges.

Hpefully you have a new commercial barrel or a real GI barrel not one of those chrome lined HERO barrels.

it's an inland, unissued from Northridge; which I've been told is fairly accurate for a Standard Products carbine of the time.

I would go to RGW, but my unit has decided to boycott him due to his readiness to "restore" (sanitize and restamp) imperial seals on arisakas and captured materials.

For me, it's not a disrespect thing, but it creates falsified articles that damage the collective value of the overall. Especially when people resell them and fail to remark that it's got restored insignias.

I remember this one distinctively because they came up to me directly and upfront said "hey, you want me to restore your insignias? I can do them real accurate and no one can tell"

If you're slapping on a GI barrel to a GI receiver.. you'll rarely need a reamer.. especially on a Carbine... basically you just screw on the barrel and line up the witness marks... run a GO gauge to make sure everything is OK and you should be good to go.....but... you'll need a carbine bolt tool to disassemble the bolt to use a gauge.....I've done several builds with GI barrel/receivers that didn't need any reaming at all. Too bad you aren't up my way (SF Bay Area) I'd do it for ya in about 15min.
