Thought I would share my delema on a E/ Port cover if your blessed with Fat Fingers , after a struggel with several over the years my easy to get that Darned Spring Spring wound around with out Stabbing one of your fingers or scratching the Uppers USE the extension PHttttt PHttttt tube that comes with a lot of Aerosol Cans like on penetrant or carb cleaner and use that as a Pilot or Dummy Shaft it bends out of the way while holding the spring in place , I've used on Bolt Release and F/ Assist also .

I just grab it with needle nosed pliers while the pin is 2/3 of the way through the spring and twist it around to wind it up before sliding the pin the rest of the way through.
It took more time to type this than it takes to actually do it.

Oh, and also, while the pin is out of the cover, check that the pin slides throu freely.
Many doors are slightly bent and the bend causes drag on the pin.
Straighten the door before you install it.
