installing ar15 forward assist issues

im installing a forward assist into my ar15 upper and i can get the roll pin punch to go thru with no issues and the forward assist works fine. soon as i start putting the roll pin in the forward assist binds up and wont move. any help will be much appreciated. ive watched the videos on how to install it and im still having problems with binding. the forward assist is a dpms and the upper is a wmd guns coated nib-x upper.

put an allen wrench in the other hole make sure it is correctly oriented

i installed a teardrop shaped one it was obvious to its position round ones can rotate

i ended up having to file down the flat portion of the forward assist, now it moves freely with out binding.

I just did this earlier today. If it is particularly stubborn you can play with using oil or cold and heat.

1) Get the roll pin started in the hole. Hold it there and began tapping it in. Use a slave pin like what bohoki said to make sure it lines up.

2) Push the forward assist in and hold it in making sure the hook is facing the inside of the receiver.

3) Use pliers with the jaws wrapped in tape to and close it on the forward assist pin and it should push most of the way through.

4) Tape it the rest of the way in.

i was able to get the forward assist in, i had to file a little bit of the flat area off the forward assist of as it was binding with the roll pin, i used my roll pin holder to start the pin and a roll pin punch to hit it the rest of the way in. it works smooth now and no issues.
