AK rear trunnion

Ok, so while demilling the rear trunnion the drill bit went through off centered and bored out the other side about 1 mm. Would I still be ok using this rear trunnion, or am I royally screwed? And if I really can't salvage it, does anyone know of a place where I can still find one?

I can salvage it, but it'll take a ****load of welding and grinding and filing, so I'll take it off yer hands for a coupla bucks shipping.


















































j/k. It's fine. If you want, put some JBWeld in the end you nicked and drill it thru with the right size bit. But it's probly fine. In the future, when you hear that loud scratching sound, that means you're out of the rivet and into the trunnion. Stop and go thru from the other side.

as long as the original rivet is out it will be ok. Remember when you squish the rivet, the rivets will form around the mistake.

If one side of the trunion hole is egged. If you are cutting you own rivit give more shank length. Normal 1 and 1/2 diameter length or 6mm - but if you are going to egged issues 8mm to 10mm of rivit protusion.

If precut rivit set i would put factory head on egged side. Watch out as the rivit is used up. Let me know if you rear rivit shanks are less than 1 and 3/4 inch. I order 2 lbs from Centaur Forge - they actually sent me 2.3 pounds of them. You may need only ine or two and be carefull demilling next time. My egged hole just kept eating up rivet length and left me short on formed head. The next rivit I use 12mm protusion and no worries.

What method are you going to use to set them - air hammer - press - rear rivit hand jig - rear trunion bolt cutter tool. May be other members have ideas.

i think apex is the only one still selling rear trunnions. rivet should expand to fill egged hole. if screwing, can be heli-coiled if not past 7/32" or use 1/4"nf screws.
