    80% 10/22

Looking for some help . I am not a gunsmith but I consider myself a pretty decent do it yourselfer .
Thinking about building a 22 lr plinker .Been seeing some really nice one off customs .
Kit for receiver comes with jig , bits , tap .
Does the drilling of the receiver require a drill press ?
    Thanks for any help .

I bet you could do it with a hand drill but I would probably recommend a drill press at least. What kit are you looking at? Do they have directions posted?

Rule number 1, never listen to a husky rider.

You can find nice drill presses on CL all the time. I found a 1950's craftsman "benchtop" drill press for $80. It'll last longer than i will. Benchtop my ***, it takes three guys to lift!

The trigger group holes and such could be done with a hand drill if caution were taken and you had a good jig, but I would not want to do the barrel hole without a locked up squared jig and drill press. If the barrel hole is not square, it will not be much good. It's a 11/16" hole and that is a little large to do by hand with 99.9% accuracy. The rail on top will not align with the barrel and that will not be fun. I guess you could hog and shim until it was close, but . . . . not the way to go.
