    NHTM USGI magblock help needed...

Bought a couple NHTM 20 rounder rebuild kits and am trying to installing magblocks into them but the NHTM mags have an interested feature I haven't seen in other mags.

To retain the base plate these mags have a locking tab riveted to the front of the magazine. This tab is in an L shape and runs the full length of the front of the magazine. I know I need to remove this tab but am unsure of how to do it.

I can drill the rivets out but this exposes what appear to be two drain holes which are centered on the front spine. This is my first AR so I don't know if the holes need to be covered so the rounds don't hang up on it or can they be exposed (I don't see them on other images of USGI mags on the internet).

The harder option is to try and dremel the tab off which would be tough due to the small confines.

The next question has to do with magpul ranger plates and the magblock. The magpul adds about 1/8" to the height of the magblock, do I need to trim the top of the magblock to make up for this?

    Any thoughts?

Magblock sells blocks that are modified for Colt, UI and Adventureline. I'm fairly confident that you would need these blocks for NHTM mags.

      Halfway there...

Magblock got back to me and stated that I can just cut the front lip of the block to slide past the retaining tab. They also said to use the ranger plates I'd just trim the corresponding amount off of the top of the block. For future reference, they also said I could have used the PMAG block which would remove the need for the magpul adapter plate.

Just did more research and found out that there is no need for an anti-tilt follower in my magazines. (Face Palm)

You got your answer... but FYI, you can drill the holes too to remove the L-shape locking tab. That's how most people use to do it to upgrade form the older black followers to the mod-green followers.

he holes don't need to be filled since it's down the center and the tip of the rounds are straggled to the side... and it doesn't hang up the followers either since the front of the follower is notched for the tab.
