JD Machine probs

I got my first one, put it together and the selector switch didn't point at 3 and 6 o'clock..more like 4 and 7. Took it to their shop and they destroyed and remade it. Same problem with the new one. I know I'm being picky, but this is precision CNC, not hobby town BS.Comment

My selector has some movement in it, like you can wiggle it from 3 o'clock to 4 o'clock and 6 to 7. It does function properly and has never given me an issue, so I never really gave it much thought.
Edit: It's been said that JD Machine actually produces lowers for several other companies including Noveske. I really don't think they would be doing so if they were producing garbage receivers.. but who knows.Last edited by Meety Peety; 02-23-2013, 11:08 AM."Everybody is a genius. Definitely not garbage, but detent hole is definitely not drilled at 6 o'clock BDC of the selector switch hole. I've got 2 Noveske's and another JD and they are all perfect. Makes me wonder if their CNC program or jig has changed. Or something nefarious like buying 80% receivers and finishing them on their CNCs.Comment

You sure the selector lever has the cutout for the detent milled in the right position and you not using a aftermarket selector??Comment

I tried 5 different selectors, detents and spring combos. When JD destroyed and remade the first one, they actually measured the detent hole and said it was out of spec. It was so obvious that even visually you could see the detent hole wasn't drilled at 6 o'clock BDC in the selector switch hole. It could actually be that the jig for the selector hole isn't aligned properly when they drill it. I'll bring a set of digital calipers and another lower when I pick up the 2nd destroy and rebuild receiver to compare. Thanks for everyones input.Comment

There is no reason to use a jig on a cnc machine. It can hold precise positioning all by it's self. most likely what happened was the lower was flipped over in the vise and it picked up a chip and picked up a number.
You have to remember the people that run the cnc's are not machinists nor are they paid very well. The guy that sets up and programs the machine is the well paid guy.Comment

Ahh, lovely. They are running 3 shifts down there now. They probably ran mine at the end of 3rd shift when the operator is totally burned out. Thx.Comment
