Barrel Blank?

Hey Guys, Newb here.

I found this guy selling barrel blanks on ebay, $57 shipped. How does one go about finishing one? With barrels being pretty hard to find and going for $175+, I'm wondering how much it would be to finish one...

Any advice and opinions are appreciated.

A blank is basically a pipe with rifling. Depending on what you want/need, you need to turn it to the correct contour, thread it, chamber it, fit it, headspace it and apply a final finish. A lathe, micrometers, reamers, headspace gauges and bluing tanks come in handy.

Most of the barrel blanks I've used came pre-contoured.You order them by the contour number.I've used Lilja,Shilen,Hart,Broughton,Kotshyn,Bartlein,Brux, Douglas,Obermeyer,Pac-Nor,Rock Creek,Adama-Bennet and a couple of others.
The only barrels that didn't come pre-turned were called in the white.
Pictured below are a 32 inch Rock Creek going on my 338 Lapua and a 34 inch Krieger going on my 338 Snipe-Tac.
When you buy a blank it needs to be fit to your action,crowned and chambered if its stainless steel.If its chromoly steel it needs to be blued as well.
Price runs from $150-$400 on a centerfire.

I charge $300 to finish out a customer provided barrel blank and extension into a finished barrel.

Thanks for the feedback guys! I didn't know you could do so much with a barrel.

It looks like this may not be the best route for me since I'm trying to do a "budget" "panic" build. I'm going to keep an eye out for a good deal on an 18" and see if I come up with anything. Thanks again!
