self etching primer for coating

Would this work well as a gun coating. I've worked in collision and restoration in the car industry and wondered if this would work. Theoretically I would think it would work fine as it it is almost the same a sheet metal.

Has anybody tried it?

I used it as a primer on my 80% before I painted it with spray paint. I don't know how long it's going to hold up yet but it'll be cheap to repaint.

I use SEM all the time and it works great. The finish is really nice.

No coat afterwards. The primer stays a real nice flat black.

watch your film thickness. auto primers tend to have high build so you can sand the excess off to make the surface flat "level" for the final coat. you may have some issues with pin holes closing up, and fit problems during reassembly. other than that, the products hold up well. you can over reduce the primer to make it build less per coat, but watch for runs when you get it too thin.
