    Replace a pin

While trying to take apart the bolt on my Mossberg 151m I somehow managed to break the pin that holds the retracting spring rod in place (or it was already broken and I didn't know it). Unfortunately, finding replacement parts for the 151m is very hit and miss. Would a piece of drill rod (specifically from McMaster page 3671) work as a suitable replacement?:

    Thanks,

    Cliff

must be same diameter ,length, hardness min as the existing pin.sounds like a low stress area so it should be fine. i would continue to look for the correct part though.

Drill rod is going to be a little on the soft side for my taste. It will work with no issues. I just don't care for it. If you can mic the diameter of the pin and order dowel pins that would be the best route. A dowel pin won't mushroom when you hit it with a hammer.

        Thanks guys,

I'll look around for dowel pins (I know the diameter is .095) or look for a complete bolt; nothing wrong with spare parts.
