    Thread help!

I was putting my AR together today and when I installed the pistol grip, I realized I used the wrong spring. I unscrewed the pistol grip, removed/inserted correct spring and when I went to install the pistol grip again, the screw would go in about 2 millimeters and stop. I can see the section of threads that's messed up.

What do I do? Did I just screw up my whole lower receiver?

You need a 1/4-28 tap and a tap handle, can be had at lowes or cheepo depot

Worst case, if you jack it up completely, you can get a heli-coil that is the same thread size from an auto parts store, drill out the hole and thread it in, but you should be able to clean up the threads with a tap as stated above, aluminum is soft so go easy with the tap.

You might be able to install the screw from the top side to chase the threads.
