What is the reliable method of attaching a recoil compensator now that
    barrel threading is a no-no?

You will need to have the barrel and comp permanently attached. I had one done with a blind pin. Depending on the material of the barrel/comp, you might be able to silver solder it on. Some say LocTite is permanent enough, but I'm not willing to risk that myself.

Why is barrel threading a no-no? My AR has a threaded barrel, so do most AK's. I think, and correct me if I am wrong, it only needs to be permanantly affixed if you are using it to bring your barrel to the 16" mi length.

I'm assuming he was talking about pistols. Pistols can not have a threaded barrel.

blind pin is the easiest. loctite is NOT considered permanant by atf so i wouldn't bet on the state gunstapo accepting it either. anyone with a drill press can blind pin and you wont have to refinish after.

I disagree. Loctite isn't considered permanent by the ATF for rifles, but the CA-DOJ told Walther that LocTite was acceptable for the P22 fiasco.

My gunsmith installed my 1911 comp onto a threaded barrel, then welded it, or used high temp solder. After it was hard chromed, you can still see the area HIGH heat was applied.
