    Parkerizing Questions

First i am trying to get a better blacker finish.
i currently use shooters solutions Heavy Duty Manganese for my park.

after sandblasting, cleaning with brake cleaner, & boiling in hot water.
i sit the parts in the park tank for up to 10 minutes @ 180 at this point the parts look black and the fizzing stops.

    1. how long do you normally leave the parts in the park tank?

    2. after the park tank do you rinse off the part in cool or hot water?
or do you go straight to the oil dunk/dip?

    3. if you rinse the part what is the benefit over not rinsing?

    4. what specific oil do you use for dunking the part and how long do you leave it in the oil?

    5. do you reuse the same oil for your next park session or do you use new oil every time?

    6. is wd-40 good for the oil dunk after the park tank?

i am trying to see what other people are doing to get the darkest black finish possible with having to paint after park.
    Thanks

    1: 10 to 20 min
    2:cool (hot h20 predip sometimes)
3: gets the acid off of your parts keeps it out of your oil
4:any (something h20 displacing and rust preventative is best)
    5:reuse
    6:yes
If it's still not dark enough (plain manganese park is usually dark grey but not black) try predip in commercial predip blackener or diluted muriatic/hydrochloric acid. Or park, rinse, dip in predip (not oil) and back into the park again. But be careful if you're doing something with tight tolerances as multiple acid passes could eat off a little extra metal.

Ive noticed lots of people see black oxide and confuse it with parkerizing, what Im saying is, make sure the black you want is possible. Use 70 aluminum oxide and blast it the best you can then do the same work again twice. Shooters really needs to age. Im talking 5-6 complete AK's before it gets dark. My results have been noticably darker using WD40 over shooters dewatering spray. I water rinse if it has bad scailing if not WD40 and hang while hot. If you wanna an awsome looking park job "double dip' it. Dunk then rinse in water then dunk again.
