Seems easier just to get a flat and bend it yourself instead of drilling the holes.

Dont forget the rivits, center support and any parts needed to be 922r compliant. I just bought my stuff for my first build.

        Here's what I ordered:

This is going with a Romanian G Parts Kit

        Tapco Pistol Grip- 1 USA
        AK Builder AKM Rivet Set
AK Center Support for 1mm Receivers- (Can you consider USA Part?)
Red Star Arms FCG Pin Retaining Plate-1 USA
        AK Raddlock
Tapco G2 Single Hook Tigger Group-3 USA Parts
Tapco Slant Brake- 1 USA Part
Standard AK47 Fixed Stock 7.62 Flat- 1 USA part
2 10 Round Tapco Magazines (Ive heard these can count as 3 US parts (body, spring, follower) but Im not sure on that, you will have to talk to someone more experienced)

6 Made in USA parts=922r Compliant (thats my understanding)

Don't buy these crappy shells. Period. Buy flats, get them bent or buy Nodak Spud fully heat treated receivers.

ak-builder standard fixed stock flats are back in stock, they will probably sell out by the end of the day though if you want to do the flat route.

You can get a Jack Squat 3-piece receiver if you have access to a welder. They work great IMO

More info on the above for newbies(who DO have access to a welder)!!!!

Is that much harder than going the flat route if one can weld?

Also, is it a bad idea to use a polish underfolder as a first build at a build party? I looked and there are like 10 different flats available, confusing me even more. Most of the "standard" flats are sold out....but many underfolders are still available, I'm assuming for a good reason.

The pre-bent flats are decent quality. They are actually Polish Tantal flats. I have a couple. The hard part is cutting the weird-shaped holes for side-folders and underfolders, but if you stay with fixed-stock builds, it's certainly possible to do with a drill press and even with a handheld drill if you're really desperate (plus reamers and needle files). Build parties might not be enthusiastic with helping with the drilling of all the holes, since they typically deal with pre-drilled unbent flats, but you can certainly talk with the organizer about what they can help you with.

If your going to a build party anyway, just buy a flat. The 80% are really nothing more than a flat that has been bent but missing all the holes. PITA in my opinion.

The pre-bent polish do take some work. AK-Builder sells a jig for them to drill out all of the holes. It also includes all of the drill bits. If I recall correcty the jig had holes and bits for drilling out the UF holes. What makes them a pita to me was the top carrier rails. You need to grind, trim and file for a perfect fit. All of these these tasks make them slower to do compared to just bending a Builder flat. The majority consensus has weighed in that the metal on these are made out of is inferior to the metal that the AK-Builder flats are made out of. I have three of these, one is on a polish uf and two are drilled out for fixed stocks with the front and rear trunnion holes yet to be drilled. I heat treated with a torch all of the important and vital areas, including all rails and the ejector tip. The two that I have sitting for fixed stocks have everything done to them and are even parked. The polish uf one functions perfectly after hundreds of rounds. Unless you, or your BP, have the jig...I would not advise taking one to a BP. Even if they have the jig, you'll be in for a long day and well behind the others that are building out on flats.
That's my ten cents on them, yours and others milage may vary!

I used a pre-bent from Henderson defense for my first build. It had the rails already installed as well. It wasn't overly difficult to finish, just drill the holes and do some dremel work. I think bending flats would be easier if you had access to a jig and welder for the rails, but I didn't find it to be the horror experience that some are finding. YMMV
