    Bain & Davis reviews?

Looking to take my 1911 there to get some sights installed. The price quote they gave me was more than fair. Anyone have any good or bad things to say about them? Thanks in advance.

I took a M1 Garand to them that had a loose gas cylinder. I can go into detail if folks want it, but long story short, they rendered my M1 unusable. The good news is at the time I could still order spare parts from the CMP and I got it up and running.

I think they have a good reputation for sights, action jobs, and the like. But I wouldn't take any C&R pieces there.

    Just my experience, YMMV.

For that type of work on your pistol,
The good thing about Bain And Davis is that they do excellent work on 1911s. Their main 'smith, Pete Stefansky, has done a great job and my 1911 has been 100% reliable for 500+ rounds since. He also has done excellent work in installing sites on my Glock and doing a trigger job on my BHP.

The bad thing about them is that they are backlogged about 3 to 4 weeks in gunsmithing and custom work.
They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.

At one point, they were one of Colt's authorized West Coast repair shops for warranty work. Don't know if they still are.

Just finally getting around to replacing the GI sights on my RIA 1911 with some trijicons is all, nothing fancy. Guns in great shape, but the teeny weenie sights need to go.

I'm in the antelope valley and he's one of the closer smiths. The one at the gun shop is unable to take any work for the next 2-3 months, and I don't feel like waiting that long. So I figure if I have to make a trek down there, it better be a good experience.

I like them, but I have not done much in the way of repairs there.

                  Since last November??

                  That's pretty bad.

Anyways, to me that's just the bad thing about them: their backlog.

The person I spoke to said it would be a couple of days tops for the install. :hmm:

When you say install sites are you talking about staking in a new front and drifting in a new rear? Or are you talking about milling the slide to fit different sites?
I move slow but I make up for it by shooting poorly.

Exactly that. No machine work should be required since the trijicons aren't novak or kimber cuts, and no dovetail front.

I dropped an old Buckmark for repairs. Took them about 3 months to "Not Fix" it. Now it was an old Buckmark and they figured it was a magazine feeding problem. Well, they don't make magazines for the sucker anymore. So hence part of the delay. They found a mag, still couldn't fix it. They ended not charing me for anything, and giving me a mag for a gun that doesn't work. Other than that, bore sighting scope no problem. I just took my Remington 700 in to have a limb saver installed on the unit. The guy said about 1-2 weeks. I'll keep you posted. You may want to call Repubic Gun works 626-334-9030, or call Bullseye Sport in Riverside (562-547-6562) and see if there is soembody closer. Good luck, Mr Phelps.
