sell it and buy a parts kit for your prebent rec.. or sell it and buy a AK lot of people like those pump aks while go and ruin itLaws that forbid the carrying of arms... disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes... Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man. Been there, done that. If your heart is set on it then go ahead. It's cheaper to buy a kit and just build one. Just remember you'll need to build a barrel up to get everything to work, nothing on that pump action barrel will work in a semi auto configuration . A new receiver isn't needed. There are 3 kinds of people in this world.

If you want to sell the pump ak I'd be interested.A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed. What part of shall not be infringed is hard to understand!?!Comment

I've got one of those PAR-1's. Bought it when they were cheap from Big 5 and AK kits were still cheap, thinking I'd semi auto it. Never did, and won't now because the kit is worth more than the rifle. I'm still going to semi it, but don't know how yet. Either a shorter length gas system or put a FAL gas system on it. The problem is the barrel on those pump AK's is awfully thin, I'm afraid it won't hold up in a semi auto.
IMHO, those pump AKs are border line dangerous. If you ride the pump or are lazy with it going forward, you may not lock the bolt, but it could still fire, as there is no sear or hammer release as there would be on a normal pump gun.
To answer your question, yes, you can semi auto it. You could probably weld up the hole in the existing gas block (if you are good enough / high pressure), and drill a gas hole. I myself wouldn't do this and would replace the gas block, because I don't like a welded plug like that on high pressure. Otherwise you'd need a new gas block.
You'd then need a new gas tube and gas piston, weld on a charging handle (or replace the carrier), and do something about the hand guards. Standard hand guard retainer won't fit correctly because of the reduced diameter barrel. There is also a difference between the PAR bolts, and a standard AK bolt. IIRC, one is longer. Never figured out why they did that.
My 2 cents, it isn't worth it cost wise, unless you get the PAR for dirt cheap to begin with. Even then you'll need some resources to get it done. If you really want to semi auto it, buy a new AK barrel and hardware to go on it.WTB: SWISS & German police trade in pistols

When I said been there done that I mean it. I've done the semi conversion. You need to replace everything from the trunnion forward. It all has to go.
Your basically getting a parts kit and a barrel and rebuilding everything using that receiver.

So, how is the PAR-1 action cycling? any problems with sticky cases/extraction on brass cased ammo?
Do they ultilise the stock recoil spring or a lesser tension spring?
What doe the front pump handguard ride on underneath the stock? the barrel?
Assume the gas rod/tube is the method of pushing bolt back to unlock?
Any pics of trunion area/barrel attachment? pins? threaded barrel?Comment

Is it a PAR-1 or PAR-3? If it's a PAR-3 don't mess with it those things are few and far between. I have 3 PAR-1's and 1 PAR-3. If you were so inclined you could weld a plug into the FSB where the hole is and then drill a gas port from below like the way it is done on an AK-74 gas block. you would also have to remove the sling attachment and fill that up. Once you have finished modding the gas block you will need to drill the barrel in the proper location for the gas port. You will also need a new gas tube and bolt carrier.
Personally I would sell it and use the $$ to buy a kit. I will say that a PAR rifle won't bring in as much $$ as it really only has value in CA. I think I paid $200 or less for each of mine.
