DW CBOB front grip checkering

So my favorite 1911 is the CBOB. But I'm having trouble getting a consistent grip because of the front grip stippling. I have other 1911's without it that don't seem to give me any trouble. I've tried thin grips instead of the stock one's but the stipple just seems to keep me from obtaining a solid purchase.

Can the stippling be reduced without looking like a mess? (Or should I just sell it and get something else?)

I'm more concerned about acquiring a good grip than anything, but I'd hate to wreck a great pistol.

First, CBOB's front straps aren't stippled, they're checkerred at 20-25 lines per inch depending upon vintage. Not trying to nitpick, but the terms have specific meanings.

I'm not sure exactly the problem is you're having. Are you saying that because of the checkerring you can't reposition your grip if you don't grab it properly on the initial draw?

The 20 l.p.i. checkerring is just about the most aggressive thing available to prevent the pistol shifting in your hands while firing. Personally I added a checkerred Ed Brown main spring housing to mine instead of the stock smooth one as I found the lack of friction in that area not to my liking. I also run slim grips and short trigger and had my slide Hard Hatted.

Bingo! Sorry about the incorrect term.

What you described is exactly the problem I am having. The checkering on the front strap is really prominent.

Now the wheels are turning. Maybe a shorter trigger is the answer?
