Rusty chrome lined barrel.

Just pulled a build out of the safe that was built from an AK Builder Romy kit with a populated chrome lined barrel. And the inside of the barrel is rusted.

Is this normal?

I parked the rifle at the build party, then soaked the kit in 30 weight oil for a week after and once a day I flipped the kit in the oil and poured oil down the barrel.

Shouldn't a chrome lined barrel not rust?

If you shoot corrosive everything rusts. Is there moisture in your safe? I like to use baking soda, silica packets, and moth balls in the safe to keep moisture away

What if you've never fired it? I've got the same thing but its been less than a week since the BP. I know mine is because I parked so late in the day so moisture was in the air and I let it sit after I used the brake cleaner when I blasted. I'm not worried about the rust. What can I get it off with? Any suggestions?

It's probably left over iron deposits from parking, it's a residue in the barrel. Remember the steel wool to condition the bath? You think a few flecks of steel settled in your barrel and started to rust?
This can happen if it's not properly rinsed of solution before the oil soak.
Clean the bore as normal with a good copper solvent and see what happens. Betcha the rust is gone.

Firing a pile of ammo can work wonders too. Even if you Parkerize a non chrome lined barrel a pile of ammo will make it shiny again if I remember correctly. It's recommended to plug the barrel and gas block when Parkerizing a non chrome lined barrel but the plugs often pop out in the hot solution it seems.

Chrome is not a rust proof coating by itself, it is to porous. In order to prevent rust forming on the metal under the chrome it needs to be copper plated and/or nickel plated then chrome plated.

If you see rust in a chrome lined barrel most likely the they went cheap and only chrome plated without the other metals. It could also be a illusion and something else is giving off the red color making it look like rust.
