Help with stuck Otis cable

Looking for ideas. I folded the patch wrong into the holder and stuck it into my AR's barrel. It was folded for 9mm so it went into the chamber just fine, but got stuck in the rifling. I'm not sure if this was fortunate or not, but I was using the thinner rimfire cable not the regular centerfire one. I tried twisting the cable to allow the patch holder to unscrew, but it was too tight. Since it is the smaller cable, I might be able to stick a gas welding rod in the barrel next to the cable and push it out, but I am afraid of scratching it. There is not enough room for a wooden dowel. Does anyone have any other suggestions?

you shouldn't have a problem with scratching the barrel if you are really worried just smooth out the ends

Man, tough one...How far past the Chamber? Dont force it & dont Scratch your Barrel/Chamber. I tend to get Impatient, so I just STOP. Anyway, you gotta free bump, lemme think!

disassemble and use needle nose pliers to get a hold of the patch. if that doesn't work, bete noires idea will work, burn out the patch, you wont hurt your rifle... i dont think the welding rod will work because of the binding factor, your might just make a bad situation worse...

X2... Burn it out , do you have cleaning rods ? A rod will screw on to the eyelet patch the same as the cable and give it a gentle tap.

thanks everyone. I just bought a pencil torch for another project so will give it a try. As far as needle nose, it is too far in. I thought about screwing something onto it, but was afraid of wedging it further.

you can try air pressure but you will need to block off the gas port.
also fabric swells with liquid,try drying it out to make it smaller so it will pass,
just ideas without it in front of me.

Air pressure is your best bet. About 120 psi should do it. I would resist the urge to put anything else solid down the barrel or to apply any type of heat source until you try the air.

my thoughts would be something big enough inside diameter to fit the the otis cable through yet small enough to fit in the barrel and tap it out. GENTLY. Good luck.

Sounds like you are describing a straw and a very thin one at that.

yes like a straw is what I'm picturing but I have no idea on how thick the cable is for the otis kits

I like the straw idea, but the cable is double headed, so it would slip past the stuck head and possibly get stuck with the patch also. The air idea was also great, but then I would have to take apart the birdcage. Usually, the cable barely fits the barrel, but since I used the rimfire cable, I have a bit more room. Will try the welding rod to puch it, if not, will probably send it somewhere to have it done. I also messed up a pistol on this range trip, so it has to get fixed first.

I`d tape over the Birdy & Use a rubber tipped Air Nozzle. It should work, it might even be easy!!! WD40 will easily remove tape residue. Would NOT suggest putting any steel into the Bore.
