Help tuning 1911 slide stop please

    Hi everyone,
I really need some help with my 1911 build. I got everything pretty much done and ready to send in for refinishing, except I just cant get the slide stop/ mag follower combination to function correctly. I already ruined one slide stop (luckily a spare), and a couple factory followers. I decided to start from scratch and just got in two Dawson modified followers and an EGW .40 cal slide stop. I wasnt sure what difference the caliber made but figured it couldnt hurt to get a designated .40 stop. So here's the deal: gun is built on a para p12 frame and has a commander slide in 40sw. The gun feeds super smoothly for everything except the last round. With one round still in the mag, the follower begins to engage the slide stop prematurely and locks the gun open. The slide stop end up about 1/3 the way up into its slot in the slide. On the one i ruined, I filed the pad that catches the follower to try to remedy this. It started to work but by the time i got it to not engage early it didnt work at all??? of course i was also trying to trim the lip on the mag follower at the same time out of frustration so that couldnt have helped. I really want to do this myself but I cant find any good information about how exactly to adjust this mechanism. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

i wouldn't touch the mag follower, i think some of the items come slightly over sized so they can be fitted precisely
Selling lots of Pistol brass, lots of 38 and 44 mag!

the are several surfaces on that part the need to be hand fitted with a file and a stone. It needs to be done by somebody who has done one before or pay someone to do it. If you are paying someone, then have them check the extractor while he is working on it. Those 2 parts are critical.

Hop- i definitely understand what your saying. With this project though,
I have been doing all the work myself so that I can learn the art. Of course I have ruined a couple parts along the way, but i've learned a ton and can now easily work on my guns. This is the last part I have to fit before the gun is finished so I really would like to wrap this up myself.
